The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man suspected of starting the Line Fire, which has burned 34,659 acres near Highland as of Wednesday morning.

Justin Wayne Halstenberg, who multiple media organizations have identified as a 34 year-old-man from Norco, was arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Central District Detention Center on suspicion of arson. His bail was set at $80,000.

The Sheriff's Department said Halstenberg is suspected of starting the fire near Baseline Road and Alpin Street in Highland on Sept. 5.

Overnight the smoke shading and cooler weather allowed the fire to moderate, according to Cal Fire. However, the fire still grew on the north and east sides. Cal Fire lists the fire as 14% contained.

Line Fire evacuations, weather forecast

Elevated winds and continued dry weather on Wednesday will lead to more growth of the fire, the agency said. The growth may be moderated if smoke cover shades the area. A total of 65,600 structures are still threatened by the fire.

Evacuation warnings and orders are still in effect for the fire.

"Limited resource availability continues to hamper control efforts," Cal Fire said in a report.

There are 3,179 personnel assigned to the fire. A state of emergency declared by Gov. Gavin Newsom on Saturday has authorized the California National Guard to assist in battling the fire. Four Blackhawk helicopters, two C-130 aircraft, 80 soldiers and one military police company will assist with the fire under the governor's proclamation.

Public safety power shutoffs to lines supplying Big Bear Valley have led to the potential loss of power to evacuation zones.

Two evacuation shelters have been set up. One is located on the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds, in Building 6, located at 14800 7th Street in Victorville.

Another is located at the Jessie Turner Health and Fitness Community Center located at 15556 Summit Ave in Fontana.
