Little Flock denied FEMA funds, seeking appeal
LITTLE FLOCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — FEMA has denied the state’s request for full federal funding to cover debris removal and emergency response measures following the May 24-27 tornadoes and severe weather in the City of Little Flock.
This denial includes direct federal assistance for the first 30 days under the Public Assistance program.
Arkansans have one week left to apply for FEMA assistance
If the decision remains, the city will be responsible for 25% of the storm-related expenses, totaling approximately $425,000. This cost will consume a quarter of the city’s projected general fund revenue for 2024, according to Mayor of Little Flock Jeff Van Sickler.
The city is requesting that the state appeal FEMA’s decision entirely or consider covering all or part of the remaining 25% of costs.

Mayor Van Sickler released the following statement to KNWA:
“On behalf of the citizens of Little Flock, I am saddened to hear of FEMA’s decision to deny the State’s request for 100 percent federal funding for debris removal and emergency protective measures, including direct federal assistance under the Public Assistance program, for the first 30 days. This is a financially devastating blow to our community, and it is my hope that the State will quickly appeal this decision and that FEMA will reconsider their position on the matter.”
