Delaney tops Davis for Laketown Township Clerk

Laketown Township will see a handful of new faces after a shake-up Tuesday.

Steven Ringelberg defeated Tara Toner by 48 votes to become the next supervisor. Current Trustee Jim Delaney topped incumbent Amber Davis for the clerk position, and newcomers Mark Timmerman and Michael Koeman took the two trustee seats, beating out incumbent Patrick Dietrich.

The only member of the Laketown Township Board poised to return to their seat is Treasurer Jim Johnson, who ran unopposed for re-election.

Baker retains sheriff nomination, Villar defeats Koch

In Allegan County, Sheriff Frank Baker cruised to a primary win over challenger Dean Brandt with 63.3% of the vote.

Mike Villar, in his third attempt at Allegan County Prosecutor, defeated incumbent Myrene Koch. Villar earned 50.6% of the vote and won by a margin of 218 votes, according to unofficial results.

Craig Van Beek, a pastor and Hamilton school board president, held off a write-in campaign by incumbent Board Chair Jim Storey for District 1 of the Allegan County Board of Commissioners. Van Beek got 2,820 votes, and only 612 write-in votes were cast, per unofficial county tallies.

Commissioner Scott Beltman earned 67.3% of the vote in a race against challenger Bret Medemar in Allegan’s District 4. There are no Democrats filed in any of the above Allegan County races.

Final results in for Ottawa County: Ottawa Impact loses majority

Ottawa Impact has officially lost the majority on the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners.

With all precincts, the final results for the biggest Ottawa County races were:

District 1: James Barry wins with 5,059 votes over OI incumbent Gretchen Cosby with 2,951.

District 2: Jordan Jorritsma wins with 2,094 votes over OI's Lucy Ebel with 1,338 votes.

District 5: OI Co-Founder and Board Chair Joe Moss wins with 4,300 votes over Hudsonville Mayor Mark Northup with 3,236 votes.

District 6: OI incumbent Kendra Wenzel wins with 3,626 votes, defeating Shawn Haff with 3,161 votes.

District 7: John Teeples wins with 4,044 votes over OI's Rachel Atwood with 3,104 votes.

District 8: OI incumbent Sylvia Rhodea wins her primary with 2,283 votes over David Lee Morren with 1,292 votes.

District 9: Former Commissioner Phil Kuyers wins with 4,070 votes over OI incumbent Roger Belknap with 2,997 votes.

District 10: Josh Brugger wins the Republican nomination with 4,727 votes over OI's Jason Koert with 1,900 votes. Oliver Schampine wins the Democratic nomination with 588 votes over Douglas VanBennekom with 497 votes.

In District 10, Josh Brugger has defeated OI's Jason Koert for the Republican nomination and Oliver Schampine takes home the Democratic nomination.

We're getting error messages when trying to open the Ottawa County results page as of 9:30 p.m. Clerk Justin Roebuck says IT has been contacted, and there are alternate plans in the offing.

Polls have officially closed along the lakeshore. Tonight, we're tracking races for state, county and townships.

That includes highly contested primary races for the Ottawa County Board — the first countywide referendum on Ottawa Impact's time as board majority since August 2022.

A record number of candidates have filed across 11 seats, and each incumbent commissioner affiliated with OI has a challenger.

In District 1, OI incumbent Gretchen Cosby faces Jim Barry. In District 2, former commissioner and OI-backed candidate Lucy Ebel faces Jordan Jorritsma. In District 5, incumbent board chair and OI co-founder Joe Moss faces a challenge from Hudsonville Mayor Mark Northrup. In District 6, OI incumbent Kendra Wenzel will face Shawn Haff, who sought an appointment to the seat when Kyle Terpstra resigned last year.

Rebekah Curran will not seek re-election in District 7 after an attempted run for U.S. Senate. Republican candidates include John Teeples and OI-backed Rachel Atwood.

The board's vice chair and other OI co-founder Sylvia Rhodea faces a challenge from David Lee Morren in District 8, and OI’s Roger Belknap will again face former commissioner Phillip Kuyers in District 9.

There will be a new representative in District 10, where Roger Bergman isn't seeking re-election. Republican candidates include OI-backed Jason Koert and Josh Brugger. In District 11, OI incumbent Allison Miedema faces two primary challengers: Sara Bajema and Richard Van Dop.

We're also watching treasurer, prosecutor and sheriff races in Ottawa County. Undersheriff Eric DeBoer and Interim County Administrator Jon Anderson are facing off for sheriff, followed by Sarah Matwiejczyk and Greg Todd for prosecutor and incumbent Cheryl Clark and Ben Genser for treasurer.

Three of five districts in Allegan County are uncontested, but we'll be watching District 1 and District 4. In District 1, current Chair Jim Storey is running as a write-in candidate against Craig Van Beek. In District 4, incumbent Scott Beltman faces primary challenger Bret Medemar.

In the race for Allegan County Prosecutor, incumbent Myrene Koch and Mike Villar will face off for the third time. Allegan County Sheriff Frank Baker faces a challenge from Dean Brandt.

We're also keeping an eye on position shakeups in Laketown Township, where Trustee Jim Delaney seeks to take over the clerkship from Amber Davis. The race has caused tension between Delaney and Township Manager Al Meshkin, who is set to retire in December.
