Local schools closed Tuesday for extreme heat

(WJW) — With extreme temperatures in the forecast, several local schools opted to close or dismiss early on Tuesday, which is expected to be the hottest day of the week.

Temperatures were expected to top 90° in the area, with the heat index hitting 100°, according to FOX 8 meteorologists.

Several Northeast Ohio counties were under a heat advisory: Ashland, Crawford, Cuyahoga, Erie, Huron, Lorain, Ottawa, Richland, and Sandusky. Several were also under an air quality alert.

Late Tuesday afternoon, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District announced that all outdoor events, practices and games would be canceled for August 27th.

Here’s a complete list of schools that have announced closures or early dismissals on Tuesday:

Ashland County

  • Loudonville-Perrysville Exempted Schools: dismissal two hours early

Cuyahoga County

  • Brooklyn High School (Polaris students should report to career center at their normal time)

  • Chestnut Elementary School — North Olmsted

  • Cleveland Metropolitan School District (all outdoor activities canceled)

  • Cleveland Preparatory Academy

  • Constellation Schools-Old Brooklyn Elementary

  • Constellation Schools-Old Brooklyn Middle

  • Constellation Schools-Parma Community High

  • Constellation Schools-Parma Community Intermediate

  • Constellation Schools-Parma Community Middle

  • Constellation Schools-Parma Community Pearl Road Elementary

  • Constellation Schools-Puritas Community Elementary
