Louisiana float won’t be in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Nungesser says

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser talked about efforts to increase tourism in Louisiana, including upcoming plans for the 2025 Super Bowl in New Orleans at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, June 3.

He talked about the need and importance of keeping the state clean and crime down for the Super Bowl.

“We make it safe and we make it shine because we can’t afford a black eye for this type of event,” Nungesser said.

He said he met with an official about spotlighting Louisiana musicians such as Harry Connick Jr., Lainey Wilson and Lauren Daigle during the Super Bowl halftime show.

“Let’s make this Super Bowl have a Louisiana flavor. Let’s put on a halftime entertainment with Louisiana musicians,” he said.

Fifty-three million people visited Louisiana in 2019, generating $1.9 billion in taxes, according to Nungesser. He said it was the fourth biggest industry in the state, adding it has slipped to the fifth since that year but tourism numbers are quickly growing back to “record-breaking numbers.”

Nungesser said there are different ways the state can bring in people, such as encouraging the state to be a good place for movie productions. He said 9% of visitors are heavily influenced to take a trip to the state by a TV show or movie.

He said Louisiana won’t take part in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year but will continue to participate in the Rose Festival in California.

“It was the end of a three-year contract. We looked at the return on investment and it just doesn’t come close to the investment and return we get,” he said.

Super Bowl LIX will be hosted in New Orleans on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025.
