Louisiana rapper NBA YoungBoy gets federal gun case moved to Utah, to plead guilty
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Louisiana rapper NBA YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, has agreed to have a federal gun charge from Baton Rouge moved to a federal court in Utah.
According to court documents, Gaulden agreed to move the case on Wednesday, Aug. 14 from the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana to the United States District Courts of Utah. The move falls under Rule 20, which is a means for the transfer of criminal cases among districts with plea deals and sentencing.
As part of the transfer of the federal case, Gaulden will plead guilty to the charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, court records show. Gaulden also faced the charge of possession of a firearm not registered with the National Firearm Registry but the U.S. Attorney’s Office dropped the charge in March 2024.
Gaulden was arrested in Baton Rouge in September 2020 after shooting a music video in an empty lot on Chippewa Street, where he and 15 others were reportedly brandishing guns.

The Baton Rouge native will face the charge in Utah where he was arrested on unrelated drug charges. He was charged with forgery, identity fraud and procuring prescription drugs in an alleged drug fraud ring.
The maximum sentencing for the gun charge is up to 10 years in prison, fines and supervised release, according to federal law.
Utah jail records show Gaulden remains in the Weber County Jail since his May arrest.
