Louisiana sheriff’s office warns of phone scam involving impersonation of deputies
ASCENSION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is informing the public about a telephone scam involving impersonating deputies.
The sheriff’s office said specifically that Sgt. Daniel Haydel has been referenced in recent scam calls. APSO said scammers are “requesting cash/electronic transfer of cash payments for arrest.”
“Please do not fall for this! Our agency will NEVER contact you and request any form of cash payment (ex: GreenDot, CashApp, Venmo, PayPal) over the phone for arrest subpoenas, warrants, or tickets,” APSO said.
The sheriff’s office stressed that they never request any payments over the phone, adding if you get a call like this, hang up.
