Man dies in Westwego crash with dump truck

WESTWEGO, La. (WGNO) — A man is dead after crashing into a dump truck in Westwego over the weekend.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, around 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, deputies were called to the scene of a crash in unincorporated Westwego between W. 9 Mile Point Road and United States Highway 90B.

Two killed in crash near Desire neighborhood

An investigation revealed the sedan and the dump truck were headed southbound on 9 Mile Point Road when the sedan crashed into the truck from behind.

Members of the Volunteer Fire Department had to extricate the man out of the vehicle and took him to a hospital where he later died.

The driver of the dump truck was not seriously hurt, according to deputies.

Independence drug bust leads to three arrests

The investigation into the crash remains under investigation. Deputies say impairment is not suspected of the dump truck driver. Toxicology results are pending for the driver of the sedan.

The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity after an autopsy is done and the family is notified.
