Man found guilty of molestation of a juvenile in Orleans Parish case re-trial

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams announced a guilty verdict for a man accused of a sex crime involving a juvenile on Thursday, Aug. 8.

The man, Gabriel Hunter, had originally been found guilty in 2018 trial, but he was granted a re-trial because the original verdict was not unanimous.

Trial date set for former New Orleans priest Lawrence Hecker

This time, Williams says, it only took eight minutes for a jury to find Hunter guilty of molestation of juvenile.

“It’s necessary to ensure a fair and constitutional process, even for the most guilty of individuals,” said Williams. “We’re committed to getting these convictions the right way, though. Constitutionally and fairly, so no survivor has to get called back 20 years down the road. There’s no lawsuit, there’s no appeal, so we never have to face reversal again.”

A re-sentencing date for Hunter has been set for Oct. 18.
