Man arrested following Seventh Ward overnight murder

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting investigation in the Seventh Ward on Friday, July 12.
The New Orleans Police Department reported the shooting happened around 12:17 a.m. in the 2200 block of New Orleans Street.

When officers got to the scene, they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the NOPD, 22-year-old Erling Antunez was questioned at the scene about the homicide. Officers obtained an arrest warrant for him for second-degree murder and illegal possession of a stolen firearm. He booked in into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the man who was shot as well as his official cause of death after an autopsy is performed and his family notified.
