Manitowoc's Wisconsin Maritime Museum names next director
MANITOWOC – Kevin Cullen has been chosen as the next executive director of the Wisconsin Maritime Museum.
"It is with great excitement and humility that I accept the responsibilities of executive director at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum," Cullen said in a news release July 10.
"In the years ahead, I'm eager to help chart a sustainable course for this esteemed cultural institution as we accomplish big projects at the museum, dry docking USS Cobia and renovations of the Wisconsin Maritime Heritage Center," Cullen added.
Cullen has been part of the team at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum for the past two-and-a-half years as chief curator and deputy director. Before that, he was chief curator and deputy director for the Neville Public Museum in Green Bay for eight years. He has more than 17 years of experience in the museum field.
"Kevin's extensive experience in museum management and his enthusiastic dedication to our mission are truly inspiring," Board President Jeff Sabel said in the release. "His leadership will propel us forward as we continue to enrich and preserve the maritime heritage that defines our community."
Cullen has served as the museum's interim executive director since previous director Catherine Green left in March to accept a position as executive director of the National Maritime Historical Society.
The museum at 75 Maritime Drive was founded in 1969 as the Manitowoc Submarine Memorial Association and, according to its website, "has grown into one of the largest maritime museums in the region." For more about the museum, go to wisconsinmaritime.org or call 920-684-0218.
