The awards ceremony is behind held in the UK for the first time since 2017
After 2023’s ceremony was cancelled, the MTV European Music Awards (EMAs) will be back on TV once again this weekend, celebrating’s the event 30th anniversary. What’s more, the EMAs will also return to the UK following a seven-year absence, with its last stint on our shores taking place in London back in 2017.
This annual night of award-giving gathers pop culture’s biggest names together to recognise and celebrate all things music, complete with big-name hosts, appearances from some of the top tune-makers of the moment and an award for the year’s best song.

When are the MTV EMAs 2024?
The 2024 MTV EMAs will be held on Sunday, 10 November at Manchester’s newest live music venue, Co-Op Live. The ceremony will be shown live on MTV UK and Channel 5.
Each MTV EMA is typically held in a different European country, but last year’s Paris-set event was called off in the wake of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. 2024’s show will mark the first time the show has been held in the UK since 2017 when the ceremony took over London’s Wembley Arena.
Who is hosting the MTV EMAs 2024?
Pop star and actor Rita Ora will return to host the 2024 MTV EMAs, having previously helmed the ceremony in 2017 and 2022.
Ora said: “I’m over the moon that I get to be back with my MTV family hosting the EMAs for the third time. The EMAs stage has become like another home for me, and this year’s show in Manchester is going to be absolutely incredible. We’ve got an amazing lineup of music performances and plenty of surprises in store. We’re all ‘mad fer it’!”
The awards will be handed out by hip-hop legend LL Cool J, Bullet Train actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Emily in Paris star Lucien Laviscount. Other stars due to present gongs include mother-daughter duo Neneh Cherry and Mabel, Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale and Queen & Slim’s Jodie Turner-Smith.
Who will be performing at the MTV EMAs 2024?
The ceremony will feature performances from synth-pop icons Pet Shop Boys, who will pick up the inaugural MTV EMA Pop Pioneers Award. British star Raye and Canadian hitmaker Shawn Mendes will also take to the stage at Co-Op Live, as will US singer-songwriters Benson Boone and Teddy Swims.
The eclectic musical line-up will be rounded out by Mexican rock band The Warning, K-pop group Le Sserafim, rapper Peso Pluma and South African R&B singer Tyla.
Who has been nominated at the MTV EMAs 2024?
Taylor Swift has led the EMA nominations for the second year running with seven nods. The singer-songwriter, 34, has been nominated in categories that include best video, best artist, best US act, and best collaboration.
This year’s best song nominations include Good Luck, Babe! by US pop star Chappell Roan, Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter, Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish and Texas Hold ’Em by Beyonce.
Battling it out in the best artist category will be Swift, Eilish, Post Malone, Raye, and Carpenter. Meanwhile, the stars competing for best UK and Ireland act will be Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, Hozier, rapper Central Cee and electronic duo Chase & Status.
There are 19 nominees who will have a chance to score their first-ever EMA award, including DJ Fred Again, Irish post-punk band Fontaines DC, and five-piece indie outfit The Last Dinner Party.
The 2024 MTV EMAs will take place on Sunday, 10 November.
