So many beauty trends have emerged from South Korea in the past five years – think snail mucin, glass skin – that it's safe to say K-beauty has taken the world by storm.

In fact, a study by Allied Market Research showed that by 2026, the K-beauty market will be worth an estimated US$21 billion.

With so many trends floating around, we want to highlight mugwort, a humble ingredient that has been making ripples in the beauty industry for its powerful benefits.

In Korea, mugwort has been used for centuries as a healing herb, thanks to its antibacterial and antifungal properties. It's also known as “ssuk (?),” and can be found as an ingredient in food, especially in rice cake form.

When consumed in tea form, it is said to help calm stomach and intestinal pains, irregular periods and soothe inflammation.
