From the museum to Jazz in the Park, here's what will be closed in Milwaukee during the RNC

The Republican National Convention is coming to Milwaukee July 15-18, bringing delegates and political figures to the city.

The event comes with heightened security, with some parts of the city not accessible to the general public, and a slew of private events. Both will make certain spaces unavailable to locals.

Here are places and regular events that are closed, canceled or unavailable to those without proper credentials during the RNC.

PLACES

Milwaukee Public Museum

800 W. Wells St.

The Milwaukee Public Museum, which falls within the RNC's vehicle screening perimeter, announced it will be closed from July 15 through 18. It will instead expand its hours to close at 7 p.m. instead of 5 p.m. on July 13, 14, 19, and 20 so RNC visitors and others can have a chance to go that week.

Betty Brinn Children's Museum

929 E. Wisconsin Ave.

Betty Brinn Children's Museum also will be closed during the RNC and has moved its usual third Thursday community access day, which features free admission, from July 18 to July 25.

Discovery World

500 N. Harbor Dr.

Discovery World will be closed July 15-18, and will move their summer day camp programming offsite for the week.

Turner Hall

1040 N. Phillips Ave. 

The entire Turner Hall building is rented out during the RNC, meaning the basement workout space will not be available to the public.

Turning Tables Tavern restaurant at Turner Hall decided not to renew its lease in April so the restaurant has been vacant since then.

BARS AND RESTAURANTS

AJ Bombers

1247 N. Water St.

AJ Bombers will be closed to the public July 15-18. The public RNC calendar shows it is hosting a fundraiser by the National Defense Political Action Committee Monday evening.

Bacchus

925 E. Wells St.

This fine-dining Bartolotta restaurant is closed for a private event from July 13- 26, according to its website.

Central Standard Crafthouse and Kitchen

320 E. Clybourn St.

Central Standard is booked out for dinner service for every night of the RNC.

Discourse Coffee Downtown

1020 N. Broadway

Discourse Coffee is closing for the week of the RNC due to MSOE and Direct Supply, which it shares a building with, encouraging others to not come in during the RNC and because of potential protests in the area.

The Edison

322 N. Broadway

The Edison will be closed to the public from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. July 17 for a convention luncheon by the American Association of Political Consultants.

Good City Brewing Downtown

333 W. Juneau Ave.

Downtown's Good City Brewing is closed July 10-19 according to a social media post. It said that the brewery would be closed due it being close to Fiserv Forum. It encouraged people to visit their other locations on the east side, Wauwatosa and Mequon.

Harbor House

550 N. Harbor Dr.

This Lakefront Bartolotta restaurant is closed to the public on July 16.

Lakefront Brewery

1872 N. Commerce St.

Lakefront Brewery will be closed to the public July 16-18, according to a post on social media.

"We are proud of this city and grateful for all who have stepped up to make it an attractive option for a variety of high profile events, and we hope this time in the spotlight brightens Milwaukee's appeal for years to come," Lakefront Brewery owner Russ Klisch said.

It will have extended hours July 14 and 15 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will be back open to the public July 19.

The Mothership

2301 S. Logan Ave.

This Bay View bar posted on social media in March that it would close for the week of the RNC in opposition to the convention. The post said locals could rent out the space for “free to dirt cheap prices.”

Oak Barrel Public House

1033 N. King Dr.

Oak Barrel is closed to the public for a late-night party July 17, starting at 10 p.m.

Pilot Project Brewery

1128 N. 9th St.

Pilot Project Brewery will be closed to the public July 15-18.

RWB Milwaukee and Lucky Clover

1044 N. King Drive, 1048 N. King Drive

The two King Drive bars that are under the same ownership will be hosting RNC events July 15 to 17. The public can buy a ticket to the July 15 event, GOP Jamboree at RWB. It will be closed to the public July 16 and 17.

Uncle Buck's

1125 N. King Dr.

Uncle Buck's will be closed to the public July 14-18.

Whitetail

1110 N. King Drive

This King Drive bar is booked out for RNC parties July 15-18. It actually will close to the public beginning July 1 for renovations, and reopen to the public July 19, the Friday after the RNC.

EVENTS

Jazz in the Park

Cathedral Square's Jazz in the Park will not be held the week of the RNC. It usually occurs on Thursdays.

MKE River Roundup Concert Series

The FunkClub Wagon, a floating stage that plays live music on the Milwaukee River Wednesday nights in the MKE River Roundup Concert Series, will take the week off during the RNC.
