In-N-Out plans to open new location in Bay Area
(KRON) — In-N-Out is planning to open another restaurant in the Bay Area. The popular Southern California-based burger chain plans to open a location in South San Francisco, according to city planning documents.
The proposed In-N-Out will be located in the area of 932 and 972 El Camino Real, spanning 1.5 acres near the intersection of El Camino Real and Westborough Boulevard. The restaurant will have a drive-thru and outdoor seating.

As of Tuesday, the project is “under review.” South San Francisco city officials still need to formally approve the project for it to move forward in construction. The city is reviewing In-N-Out’s application to make sure the project meets “zone and development standards,” said South San Francisco Economic & Community Development Chief Planner Adena Friedman.
Friedman added the project will need to be reviewed by the city’s Design Review Board and approved by the Planning Commission.
“There is not currently a specific timeline for project approval,” Friedman said.
The development project comes months after In-N-Out shuttered a location in the Bay Area — its first-ever restaurant closure. The In-N-Out in Oakland permanently closed on March 24 because of “issues of ongoing crime,” the burger chain said.

The last In-N-Out to open in the Bay Area was in Santa Rosa. That restaurant opened back in July of 2023.
There are currently 38 In-N-Out restaurants in the Bay Area. The closest In-N-Out locations to the proposed South San Francisco project are in Daly City and Millbrae.
In-N-Out opened its first restaurant in Baldwin Park, Calif. back in 1948. It has since become one of, if not, the most popular fast food burger chain in California and the West Coast — spanning as far out east as Texas.
