NDOT announces debut of Joey Bishop Drive, part of I-15-Tropicana interchange
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Joey Bishop Drive makes its Vegas debut on Friday, joining Rat Pack roadways Frank Sinatra Drive and Dean Martin Drive as construction on the Tropicana Avenue-Interstate 15 interchange enters a new phase.
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) announced changes in traffic restrictions that begin Thursday night as the project enters Phase 5.
The road name honors the “often-overlooked” entertainer (NDOT’s words, not ours), and he’s going right to work.
“This roadway will improve traffic flow for decades to come and serve as a vital detour while Dean Martin Drive undergoes construction,” NDOT said in a Thursday news release.
A YouTube video from NDOT guides drivers on how to navigate the new road.
Starting Thursday, Jan. 16, at 11 p.m., crews will shut down northbound Dean Martin Drive just south of Tropicana. At 5 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, Joey Bishop Drive will officially open to traffic. See the map below, which shows how the road takes traffic from the southbound I-15 off-ramp, sending cars under Tropicana Avenue to connect with Dean Martin Drive. Business access will remain open.
From Monday, Feb. 3, to Tuesday, Feb. 18, north and southbound Dean Martin Drive access to Tropicana Avenue will completely close.
NDOT said eastbound and westbound Tropicana Avenue will be reduced to one lane between Polaris Avenue and Valley View every night (9 p.m.-5 a.m.) Sunday-Thursday through Sunday, April 6.
“As reconstruction progresses, removing the traffic signal at Dean Martin Drive and Tropicana Avenue will significantly improve traffic flow along the corridor,” NDOT said.
