No matter how you slice it, Worcester gets good ranking among pizza places
The late Frank Fiorillo, creator of the first mass-produced pizza mix, grew up in Worcester.
It was his small place in pizza history that helped Worcester earn a spot in the Top 10 Cities for Pizza in America.
The unscientific ranking puts Worcester at No. 9, a pizza's worth of slices behind Rochester, New York.
The list was compiled by rent.com, a property-leasing website. Among other factors, the ranking gives communities extra points if they have a high percentage of pizza shops among its total restaurants. In Worcester, that number is 22%.
Meantime, list compilers gave a nod to Fiorillo, who in the 1950s founded what would become Appian Way Pizza, which is still around.
