Officer-involved shooting in Wisconsin sends suspect to hospital with gunshot wound

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WFRV) – A 28-year-old Wisconsin man suffered a gunshot injury after officers in Wisconsin were forced to discharge their firearms during an incident on Tuesday night.

According to a release, on July 9, shortly before 7:30 p.m., Milwaukee Police Department detectives were riding in an unmarked squad car on the 1500 block of West Hopkins Avenue when they observed a suspect grab an individual and point a firearm at their head.

The detectives exited the squad car and ordered the suspect to get on the ground while identifying as police. The suspect reportedly pointed his gun toward the detectives, prompting them to fire at the suspect.

The release says that the suspect fled the area, and police believed the suspect was uninjured in the shooting.

On Wednesday, July 10, at around 4:15 p.m., officers located and arrested the suspect, later identified as a 28-year-old Wisconsin man on the 2900 block of North 37th Street.

At the time of the arrest, it was determined the 28-year-old suffered a non-fatal gunshot injury. The suspect was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Milwaukee Police Department detectives involved in the incident are a 50-year-old man with over 16 years of experience and a 40-year-old man with over ten years of experience.

Both detectives will be placed on administrative leave per agency policy while a thorough investigation is completed.
