Pamplico man in prison since 2021 wants new trial

PAMPLICO, S.C. (WBTW) — A Pamplico man who’s been in prison since 2021 on a voluntary manslaughter conviction wants a new trial, saying in court documents that his attorneys were ineffective.

Tre’Quahn Fleming was 17 when he shot and killed 38-year-old Henry Thomas on South Elm Street in Pamplico.

Fleming was initially charged with murder, but pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and handed a 20-year prison sentence in October 2021.

Fleming on June 7 filed a post-conviction relief application in Florence County Common Pleas Court, arguing that his lawyers never told him of his right to appeal.

Fleming is currently an inmate at the Turbeville Correctional Institution.
