Polls fluctuate between Harris and Trump. What do odds look like ahead of Tuesday debate?

Just hours before the first — and possibly only — debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, the former president has narrowly regained the betting lead over Harris in the presidential election odds.

This marks the first time Trump has taken the lead since mid-August when the odds, which U.S. oddsmakers cannot legally participate in, shifted decisively in Harris’s favor following the Harris-Walz ticket's post-announcement boost.

Trump’s recovery with bettors comes despite a series of missteps, including incoherent responses to economic policy questions at the New York Economic Forum, the controversial use of Arlington National Cemetery for political campaigning, and an unexpected endorsement of Harris by former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney, USA TODAY reported.

The bets come just days after historian Allan Lichtman, who has accurately forecasted nine of the last 10 elections, predicted Harris' win in the 2024 election.
