The Guardian

"It's easily [Tyler Perry's] worst film to date."

Decider

"Divorce in the Black isn't the hoot you want it to be. It doesn't derail like a memorable trainwreck; rather, it poots out on the track."

Movie Files

"I would be lying if I said I didn't find some moments of entertainment. Perry's direction and tone is all over the place but putting my criticism aside, compared to some of his recent movies, this is way more tamed and somewhat narratively competent."

Screen Rant

"With inconsistent pacing and tonal shifts that make the audience question the story's purpose, Divorce in the Black doesn't stand out."

FandomWire

"Tyler Perry's Divorce in the Black could have succeeded if it stuck to its insightful and pensive portrayal of Ava's emotional recovery and old-fashioned romance."
