PTO treasurer for Union County school charged with embezzling $1,500+
MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A member of a Union County school’s Parent-Teacher Organization was arrested this week after being charged with embezzling from the organization.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, investigators say they received reports of suspicious financial transactions involving accounts belonging to the Piedmont Middle School PTO. The accounts were reportedly linked to the PTO’s treasurer, 52-year-old Michelle Thomas of Peachland.

Detectives determined that Thomas took more than $1,500 from the account over the past several months and used it for personal gain, for non-essential purchases. She was processed into the Union County Detention Center and received an unsecured bond of $1,500.
