‘Reckless gunfire:’ Vehicle crashes into fence after alleged failed robbery
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — An alleged attempted aggravated robbery is under investigation in Dayton.
Officers were called to the 4700 block of Queens Avenue in reference to a shots fired call just before 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 7.
According to Dayton Police Lt. Steven Bauer, individuals met officers at an alternate location. During that interaction, the people reportedly told officers they had been subject to a failed aggravated robbery.
Bauer said in a statement that a suspect allegedly tried to steal items from the impacted individuals. After the incident was unsuccessful, it is believed by police that shots were then fired by the suspect and their associates, as well as one of the individuals impacted by the alleged attempted robbery.
“When this failed, the suspect fled while firing shots at the victims,” said Bauer. “A victim returned fire, and some of the suspect’s associates then shot at the victims.”
The suspect’s Kia Optima, which is suspected to have been a stolen vehicle, was reportedly located in the 4700 block of Eichelberger Road in Dayton. Police claim the Kia had crashed into a residential fence.
