Record-high temperatures from Portland to Phoenix as heat wave continues. Is end in sight?

Swaths of the West are under excessive heat warnings and advisories as a heat wave continues throughout the region.

Las Vegas saw the highest temperature of all time in the city Sunday when the National Weather Service reported that a gauge at Harry Reid International Airport hit 120 degrees at 4 p.m. local time.

Accuweather predicts that multiple western cities will break daily temperature records over the coming days. Portland is set to see triple digits in a period where the average recorded temperature is around 77 degrees.

The heat is expected to move east, providing some relief to coastal areas while settling in over the Great Basin, according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Elizabeth Danco.

"Temperatures in cities near the Pacific coast, including San Francisco and Oakland, California, are expected to dip to near historical averages for July," Danco said on the forecaster's website.

Here is the three-day forecast for cities in the West from AccuWeather.
