Recounts for two Tom Green County races start next week

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Two recounts are scheduled next week for the March 5th Tom Green Republican primary elections. Those recounts will happen at the Tom Green County Elections headquarters at the Edd B. Keyes building in downtown San Angelo on Thursday, March 21st, and Friday, March 22nd.

Tom Green County Republican Party Chairman Bruce Burkitt says he’s in the process of putting together vote recount teams to recount the ballots by hand.

The two candidates who petitioned for recounts paid a deposit to cover the costs. The races being recounted are for County Commissioner Precinct 1 and County Constable Precinct 4.

In the Republican primary for Tom Green County Commissioner Precinct 1, incumbent Ralph Hoelscher won by one vote against Michelle Schniers DeRusso with a total of 862 to 861. DeRusso petitioned for the recount in that race.

In the race for an open seat for County Constable Precinct 4, the county total shows Start Park Police Captain Thomas Bigham had 84 more votes than Tom Green County Sheriff’s Investigator Gary Cole, totaling 1,892 to 1,808. Cole petitioned for that recount.
