According to iNews, many countries are nervous about the president-elect’s “promise to shake up the world order,” especially when it comes to Russia’s war against Ukraine. It has many leaders in Europe on the edge of their seats, that’s why King Charles III is reportedly prepping to use his “soft power” to stay on the U.S.’ good side. What the monarch has working in his favor is Donald Trump’s respect for the throne and he might be easy to sway with a Buckingham Palace visit or two.
The royal family’s diplomacy with Donald Trump might be “a really good way for the UK to strengthen relations.” Evie Aspinall, director of the British Foreign Policy Group, told iNews that leaning into the president-elect’s ego might be exactly what the U.K. needs right now. “Donald Trump, he loves family, he loves the pomp of the monarchy, and I think that’s an exciting way for him to feel important,” she explained. “Being seen to be recognized by the Royal Family is something, I think, that he would like. So actually, the more we can bring in people like King Charles, who he particularly likes, I think there’s an opportunity to get a basis of strong relations from that.”
Donald Trump gushed about Queen Elizabeth II after she passed away in September 2022. “Queen Elizabeth’s historic and remarkable reign left a tremendous legacy of peace and prosperity for Great Britain. Her leadership and enduring diplomacy secured and advanced alliances with the United States and countries around the world. However, she will always be remembered for her faithfulness to her country and her unwavering devotion to her fellow countrymen and women,” he wrote on Truth Social, via People.
Still, the late monarch was reportedly not a fan of the controversial politician. In Craig Brown’s book, Q: A Voyage Around the Queen, Queen Elizabeth reportedly found Donald Trump to be “very rude.” The author wrote, “She particularly disliked the way he couldn’t stop looking over her shoulder, as though in search of others more interesting.” He reportedly wasn’t her favorite foreign dignitary, but Donald Trump claimed to the Daily Mail in August.
“She said to friends of mine that, ‘President Trump was my favorite president.’ And then you have this guy looking for some publicity for a book that probably is phony, and a lot of other ways too,” he said. “We had an unbelievable relationship. She was an amazing woman.”
Now it’s up to King Charles to foster good relations with a sometimes temperamental Donald Trump.
