Several Boutte businesses evacuated due to gas leak
BOUTTE, La. (WGNO) — Several businesses have been evacuated due to a gas leak in Boutte on Thursday, Aug. 15.
The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that Atmos Energy notified them of a leak near Highway 90 and Melonie Street.

Sheriff’s office officials said the leak is underground, and crews are working to find its origin.
As a precaution, several businesses in the area were evacuated.
Deputies are advising residents to avoid the area if possible.
In a 2 p.m. update, the sheriff’s office reported that repairs are being made, and “the explosive threat and the gas odor have diminished.”

At 4:15 p.m., St. Charles Parish deputies reported that the line was depressurized, and the evacuation was lifted.
According to the sheriff’s office, the main line must be replaced and “businesses and residents east of Majoria’s through River Parish Community College will be out of natural gas.”
They said residents on Myrtle, Shmill, Breaux and Melonie streets will be impacted by the outage.
A timeframe for the repairs has not yet been announced.
