Southern BBQ chain working to develop first location in Escambia County. What we know

Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Que has applied to develop its first Escambia County location for North Davis Highway at the former Sears Tire Center.

The restaurant is proposed to be built within the University Town Plaza between Bubba’s 33 and Cheddar’s Kitchen, according to its site plan filed with Escambia County.

Here’s what we know about the proposed Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Que project.

What is Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Que?

Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Que began in an old pizza parlor in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1985 and has expanded to 47 locations operating locations across six states in the Southeast U.S., including Florida Georgia, Tennessee and both North and South Carolina.

As evidenced by its name, Jim ‘N Nick’s menu features barbecue and Southern-styled meals from its meats to its corn. Outside of barbecue, Jim ‘N Nick’s also serves salad, banana pudding and Mable’s Homemade Pies.

Jim ‘N Nick’s closest operating locations are located in Niceville and Foley, Alabama. A previous location on Emerald Coast Parkway in Destin closed approximately four years ago.

Where would the Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Que be?

The proposed Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Que is planned for development next to the Bubba’s 33 on North Davis Highway.

The address for the restaurant will be 7011 N. Davis Hwy once its development has finished, according to the project’s information form filed with Escambia County.

Should its development be approved, the proposed North Davis Highway location would be Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Que’s second Florida location and 48th location across the Southeast region of the U.S.

Although its parcel was formerly developed, the old Sears Tire Center has already been demolished and its utilities and stormwater infrastructure remains intact for use.

What would the potential restaurant look like?

The potential Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Que is planned to be a full-service restaurant with a drive-through on a 1.48-acre parcel, according to the project’s site plan filed with Escambia County.

The restaurant’s building is proposed to be 4,275 square feet and seat 180 people between its indoor and outdoor seating.

The project’s application to Escambia County’s Development Review Committee is still in its initial application phase and was reviewed by the Development Review Committee on Wednesday. The project’s final approval from the county is not yet secured.

The developers of the potential restaurant initially applied to the Development Review Committee in October but applied once again after making modifications to their site plan and project information form.
