Police: Springdale man arrested after making fake bomb for bank robbery

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Springdale police arrested a registered sex offender accused of Monday’s bank robbery and false bomb threat.

Scott Walker, 52, was arrested on aggravated robbery, theft of property and threatening to cause catastrophe.

On June 17, Walker placed a fake bomb on the counter at United Bank in Fayetteville, demanded money and said he had an earpiece in and would detonate the bomb if police were called.

As Walker left the bank he changed out of a bright orange hoodie into a gray shirt and rode a bike before hopping on public transit, an arrest report states. An investigator on the bus had talked with Walker but was not told about his change of appearance.

The investigator got Walker’s name and police were able to search his home due to an active search warrant. The report states that during the search they found materials relevant to the fake bomb and clothing matching the description during the robbery.

Walker was found by SPD with a bag containing a “large sum of money.” Police said he admitted to robbing the bank.

His bond has not been set.
