St. Tammany Parish teenager ‘accidentally shot’ inside home dies

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) — St. Tammany Parish deputies are investigating after a teenager died following an “accidental shooting” inside a Goodbee-area home on Tuesday, July 16.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office reported deputies responded to a home in the 100 block of Eagle Landing Drive around 7:54 p.m., where a 15-year-old girl had reportedly been shot while sitting in the living room.

She was airlifted to a hospital for treatment where she died later that night.

According to the STPSO, a man inside the home told investigators he was handling a gun in another room “when the gun accidentally fired, and the bullet travelled through a wall and struck the girl.”

“This was a very sad and horrible accident,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “I ask for our community to join me in praying for everyone involved.”

STPSO officials said the investigation is ongoing.
