Witnesses reportedly notified the NOPD and emergency services, which arrived on scene to help the victim. EMS took the man to a local hospital but he was later declared dead.

On Friday, Aug. 2, the owner of the vehicle, identified as 31-year-old Jude West, turned himself in to the NOPD for questioning, during which it was determined that he had allegedly been driving the truck when the hit-and-run occurred.
