Suspect identified in Central City homicide case

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A man has been identified as a suspect following an investigation into a Central City homicide that occurred on Tuesday, July 23.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, an arrest warrant has been obtained for 39-year-old Dana “Dante” Dorceus in connection with the homicide, which reportedly happened in the 2400 block of Dryades Street.

The investigation began around 1:40 a.m. on the day of the homicide when the NOPD responded to a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, a known male was found having been shot multiple times. He was transported by New Orleans Emergency Services to a local hospital where he was later declared dead.

Two days later, on July 25, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 41-year-old Tony Jones.

Following an investigation, detectives say that they have identified Dorceus as the perpetrator in the shooting. He is wanted on one count of second-degree murder.
