I-Team: Help for family of man who spent countless hours protecting citizens

CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Fox 8 I-Team has found the community rallying around the family of a man who’d spent countless hours helping to protect citizens and law enforcement on the highways.
Last Monday, Chris Haire, who ran the North Coast Emergency Services, passed away suddenly at home.

When you saw Cleveland Police handling the scene of a crash in the middle of the night, there was a good chance a volunteer group would be helping to block traffic.
NCES operated a volunteer safety patrol by blocking traffic and helping police at the scenes of crashes and other emergencies. When not assisting police, NCES operated as a roadside assistance company for drivers.
Now, the community is rallying to help the family of Chris Haire.
A GoFundMe account has been set up and a vigil and ceremony will be held involving towing companies and law enforcement this week.
Local man reveals the strategy behind his lottery win
Integrity Recovery Services has organized the event including a moment of silence and reflection, along with a “lighting” as vehicles will turn on their emergency lights.
That will happen Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 6-8 p.m. at 6953 w130 in Parma Heights.
On Sunday, Sept. 8, two kids in Brooklyn will open up a lemonade stand to raise money in honor of Chris Haire. That will take place on Vandalia Ave. in Brooklyn between 2 and 6 p.m.
In 2022, the Cleveland Police Foundation honored NCES. The Foundation wrote, “Since their service began in 2016, North Coast has responded to thousands of calls for service…”
Cleveland Police First District Administrative Sgt. James Bezak stated “The dedicated volunteers of North Coast Emergency Services work tirelessly assisting with traffic control and securing a safe zone for public safety personnel in the Cleveland area. Their efforts help keep public safety officials safe from traffic hazards as they perform their duties. North Coast Emergency Services and the work done by these volunteers is a tremendous asset to the City of Cleveland.”

Upon receiving that award, Chris Haire said, “We are extremely grateful for this recognition. As many folks know, we voluntarily provide our traffic management service to the Cleveland Division of Police to help keep officers and other first responders safe whether on the city streets or local highways. By doing this, we believe this allows officers/first responders to focus on the job at hand it also enhances officer safety. For the last 5 years, we have forged a great relationship with officers within the CPD, so this has become personal to us. We feel that our traffic management services allow first responders to focus on more pressing matters, and our dedicated team members believe this is a great way to give back to our community”
