Texas Gov. Greg Abbott bashes Biden over border battles in speech at RNC: Watch
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott took the stage at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday, bashing the Biden administration over what's happening near the state's border with Mexico.
Abbott was elected as governor in 2014 after serving as Texas attorney general since 2002, the longest-serving attorney general in Texas history. The Texas governor is a supporter of former president Donald Trump, even announcing his endorsement of the 2024 presidential candidate in November 2023.
Abbott has frequently stood in the spotlight over immigration policy, and he used his RNC speech to recount some of those incidents. He boasted about busing migrants to sanctuary cities and doubling down on razor wire installations along the border.
The RNC is taking place in Milwaukee through Thursday where former President Donald Trump will formally accept the party’s nomination for the 2024 Election. USA TODAY and the USA TODAY Network have more than 60 journalists on the ground in Milwaukee and you can follow along with our live blog for updates throughout the day.

What to know about Greg Abbott
Who is he: Abbott is the governor of Texas
What role does he play: Abbott has already stood in a fight between Republicans and the Biden administration over boarder control. In January, 25 Republican governors signed a statement supporting Abbott's constitutional claim of self-defense to justify using the state enforcement to block the wall.
Key quote: "The President's most sacred duty is to secure our country," Abbott said. "Joe Biden deserted his duty on his first day in office. He gutted President Trump's policies, and the result has been catastrophic. Under Joe Biden, illegal immigration has skyrocketed under his watch."
