Thanksgiving dinner will cost less this year, but it's still higher than five years ago. Here's the price breakdown.
Grocery prices for Thanksgiving dinner in the U.S. will dip again for the second year in a row, according to the annual report by the American Farm Bureau Federation.
According to the report, Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people in the U.S. will cost an average of $58.08, down 5% from last year. However, prices are still nearly 20% higher than they were five years ago.
“We are seeing modest improvements in the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for a second year, but America’s families, including farm families, are still being hurt by high inflation,” Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall said in a statement.
Midwest states, including Wisconsin, will see prices slightly higher than the average at $58.90 for Thanksgiving dinner. The cost for Thanksgiving dinner was cheapest in southern states at $56.81, followed by northeastern states at $57.36 and western states at $67.81.
Most items saw a dip in prices, including fresh vegetables, according to the report. Milk costs also dropped more than 14%, although milk prices can vary between regions in the U.S. Items like dinner rolls and stuffing cost more this year due to higher labor costs to produce processed foods.
The survey, which was first conducted in 1986, is calculated using surveys completed with pricing data from all states and Puerto Rico.
