People scrambled to get their tickets refunded and hotels canceled, but not everyone has been successful.
Ritchie Wolfe from Maryland booked a suite at the Ocean Key Resort at The Oceanfront, and was unable to cancel due to the proximity of the event. The third-party booking wouldn’t allow cancelations less than 30 days out.
The change also impacted hotels as they were preparing for a busy weekend. The Virginia Beach Hotel Association President John Zirkle said it’s hard to get the business back when a big event is canceled less than a month away.
“There’s a lot of restaurants that I’m sure were staffing up, or, you know, trying to line up staff,” Zirkle said. “Hotels were making sure they had enough staff. So cancel event the last minute, like this, it really hurts individuals in their pocketbook that aren’t going to get paid now because they’re not going to be needed.”
