Trump Goes Full Fascist in Truth Social Posting Spree

Usually, the best indicator of Donald Trump’s mental state at any given time is the tone and frequency of his social media posts. On Wednesday — in the aftermath of a new election-interference indictment from Special Counsel Jack Smith — the former president seemingly spent the morning scrolling through his Truth Social comments and “re-truthing” all manner of conspiratorial, sexist, and fascist content.

Trump posted dozens of memes and comments from accounts promoting the QAnon conspiracy theory, false claims about the 2020 election, sexist attacks against Vice President Kamala Harris, and the use of authoritarian tactics against his political enemies.

According to the progressive watchdog Media Matters, the former president promoted QAnon — an expansive conspiracy that claims Trump is waging battle against satanic forces that control the government — at least 15 times on Wednesday morning. These included images using the conspiracy slogan “Where We Go One, We Go All,” and references to the conspiracy’s belief that “the storm is coming.”

Trump also “re-truthed” a post featuring images of Harris and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the words: “Funny how blowjobs impacted both of their careers differently.”

Trump boosted several posts and comments calling for prominent Democrats to be imprisoned.  One such post featured the image of former President Barack Obama with the caption “All roads lead to Obama. Retruth if you want public military tribunals.”

Another post on Trump’s feed shows Harris, Hillary Clinton, President Joe Biden, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Bill Gates, and Hunter Biden in orange prison jumpsuits. The image text reads “How to actually ‘fix the system.’”

Trump has publicly indicated that if reelected, he would use his office to exact revenge on President Biden and other prominent political figures. Last year, after being charged with offenses related to his mishandling of classified documents, Trump vowed to appoint a “real special prosecutor to go after the most corrupt president in the history of the United States of America, Joe Biden. And the entire Biden crime family.”

Wednesday’s posting frenzy is one of several public meltdowns Trump has had in the past several weeks since his campaign was thrown off balance by Biden’s exit from the race and Harris’ ascendance into the nomination. It’s clear at this point that those around Trump are regularly doing damage control to keep him happy.

At one point in Wednesday’s frenzy, Trump touted his recently formed TikTok account and accused Harris of having to “PAY FOR HER FAKE ENGAGEMENT” on social media.

“WE’RE BEATING HER ‘LIKE A DRUM’ LIKE WE WILL BEAT HER ON NOVEMBER 5TH. IT’S ALL FAKE, IT’S ALL MISINFORMATION AND DISINFORMATION. WE ARE DESTROYING THE DEMOCRATS ON SOCIAL MEDIA!” Trump wrote.

A senior Trump campaign official tells Rolling Stone that they are consistently relieved, for the sake of their 2024 campaign, that the former president’s main social media home is now Truth Social, if only because it limits the public reach and media attention that these kinds of posts receive, as Trump is trying to appeal to moderate and swing voters in the final months of the election. If Trump were still using X, formerly Twitter, as his primary social vehicle, this official asserts, the more “unhelpful” posting and reposting sprees would get more public traction and drive more news cycles. (Trump has been posting on X more frequently since Elon Musk interviewed him earlier this month, but the bulk of his ranting takes place on Truth Social.)

That’s not to say that what happens on Truth Social stays on Truth Social. Last Thursday, Trump’s digital meltdown during and after Harris’ acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention spilled over into a series of erratic, angry calls on Fox News and Newsmax during their live convention coverage.
