Trump-Harris Encounter At Ground Zero 9/11 Memorial Caught By TV Cameras

The morning after their contentious first debate which saw Vice President Kamala Harris call former President Donald Trump a liar and Trump blame Harris for an unverified rumor that immigrants in Ohio were eating their neighbors’ dogs, the presidential candidates found themselves in very close proximity the annual 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony at the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum in Lower Manhattan.

How close? Only President Joe Biden and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg stood between them. In fact, it was Bloomberg who broke the ice. In a made-for-TV moment, the former mayor leaned over, tugged on Harris’ sleeve and pointed to Trump, who was looking expectantly in the vice president’s direction.

As she did last night at the beginning of the debate, Harris extended her hand to Trump and the duo shook, a gesture that caught some who had watched the previous night’s showdown by surprise.

You can watch the moment, caught by C-SPAN cameras, below.

Internet sleuths guessed that the words exchanged were something along the lines of Trump telling Harris, “You did a good job” and Harris saying a few brief words that allegedly included, “Thank you, thank you.”

It was a surprising — if appropriate — moment of decorum after a night of very indecorous exchanges.
