Vehicle theft and police chase ends in prison sentence for Carthage woman

JOPLIN, Mo. — An unhoused Carthage woman will go to prison for stealing a vehicle and leading police on a pursuit that crossed state lines.

Michelle Rodriguez, 25, pleaded guilty to tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest in a court hearing held last month.

Judge David Mouton sentenced Rodriguez to four years in prison.

In April, Carthage police received a call about a stolen Bill’s Electric Company vehicle.

An officer said he spotted it in the Casey’s parking lot in Duenweg and tried to pull it over.

The driver sped off, leading police on a chase that went into Webb City, Joplin, and even Galena.

The chase finally ended at 7th and Schifferdecker when the vehicle hit a concrete median.

That’s where police took Rodriguez into custody.
