Vice President Kamala Harris to campaign Sunday in Detroit, Pontiac and East Lansing
Vice President Kamala Harris will spend Sunday campaigning in Michigan, making stops in Detroit, Pontiac and East Lansing ahead of Election Day on Tuesday, officials said.
Harris will then close out her campaign Monday in Pennsylvania, another key battleground state in what is expected to be a close election between Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, and former President Donald Trump, the Republican.
Sunday will be the 16th day Harris has spent in Michigan this year, though she made four visits before launching her presidential campaign in August. Most recently, she held a Monday rally near U-M in Ann Arbor. Trump is to appear in Warren on Friday, speaking at Macomb Community College, in what will be his 16th day in Michigan this year.
A senior Harris campaign official, who declined to be identified, said Harris will attend church in Detroit on Sunday and visit the city's Livernois area. Strong turnout in Detroit is generally critical to Democratic success in Michigan.
Harris will then make a stop in Pontiac, another city with a significant Black population and historic ties to the auto industry, the official said.
Harris is then expected to move on to East Lansing, where the official said she will court another key constituency, young voters, delivering remarks at around 6:30 p.m. at Michigan State University. MSU is also located inside the congressional district of what is seen as a key race nationally between Democrat Curtis Hertel, Jr. of East Lansing and Republican Tom Barrett of Charlotte. Both are former state senators.
The presidential candidates' running mates are also active in Michigan as Election Day draws near.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democrat, has stops planned Friday in Detroit, Flint and Traverse City.
Ohio Sen. JD Vance, the Republican, is to speak Friday at the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Portage.
