The Voice UK returned to screens tonight, with series 12 unveiling a new change for the show.

The ITV reality show returned tonight (November 4), with a new batch of hopefuls aiming to impress the coaches - Olly Murs, Anne-Marie, Sir Tom Jones and will.i.am - to secure a place in the battle rounds.

In a change to the format, the show has now welcomed Groups to participate; duos and trios had previously been allowed, but the arrival of groups on the show represents the first format change of this kind since 2018.

The first group to appear on the show were Déjà Vu, a four-piece girl band who formed during the pandemic, with the members all conversing online before eventually meeting up.

After performing a rendition of Sam Smith and Kim Petras song 'Unholy', the group had the pick of the judges as they all turned their chairs. The band eventually opted to select Anne-Marie as their coach, revealing that they liked the idea of creating "girl power" with her.

Whilst the new series is now underway, it was recently confirmed that Murs will be leaving the show upon its conclusion, with the star revealing that he was "gutted" to not have his contract renewed.

"I'm gutted. I got the call last week to say I won't be back on the show, and it's a bit of a shock, to be honest," he said. "But I don't want to sit here like other artists might, and shine and gloss this up and say, 'It was my decision'. I don't want to do that."

"Did I want to leave? No. Will I still watch the show? Of course, but it'll be sore thinking that could have been me," he added.

ITV is yet to confirm who Murs' replacement will be, with the network saying that news on the 2024 series will be released in "due course".

The Voice UK airs on ITV1 on Saturday evenings.
