With Election Day coming up on Nov. 5, here's your guide for all things related to casting your vote in New Hampshire. To see guides for other states, click here.
Do I need to register to vote?
If you’ve never registered to vote before, you do need to register to vote. You can check if you’re registered at the voter information lookup site on the NH Secretary of State’s office.
How do I do that?
You can register to vote at your town hall or on Election Day by completing a voter registration form. You need to be 18 years old on the day of the next election, a U.S. citizen and a resident of New Hampshire.
What's the deadline?
In New Hampshire, you can register to vote on Election Day.
Where do I find out where my polling site is?
Your polling location will also be available on the voter information lookup site under “Search polling places and sample ballots by address.”
Can I vote by mail?
There is no widespread voting by mail in New Hampshire. Instead, you may register to vote absentee only if you have a state-approved excuse, which include being out of town on Election Day, having a religious observance or having a disability or illness that make it difficult for you to vote in person.
What's the latest date I can turn in my ballot?
Absentee ballots can be submitted up until 5 p.m. on Election Day, but it’s recommended to mail it at least two weeks before the election.
Is there a way I can track my ballot?
You can check your absentee ballot status on the voter information look up site under “View My Voter Information.”
What if I need help getting to the polling site?
Every polling place in New Hampshire must be accessible to people with disabilities, according to the New Hampshire Constitution Bill of Rights. If you are unable to enter the polling place, an election official will help the voter to cast your ballot from a parked vehicle using the Absentee Voter procedure. Each polling place is also equipped with an accessible voting system.
