Warning continued for Lake Erie swimmers and boaters: NWS
(WJW) – The National Weather Service has issued a beach hazard statement that says swimmers should stay out of parts of Lake Erie due to a “high risk of rip currents.” A Small Craft Advisory is also in effect.
FOX 8 Meteorologist Dontae Jones reports Tuesday will be breezy with winds reaching 20-25 mph during the day. The gusty north winds will make Lake Erie rather choppy.
When should you expect the first snow of the season in Northeast Ohio?
According to the NWS, the beach hazard statement applies to beaches along Erie, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Lake and Ashtabula counties in Ohio. As well as, Erie County in Pennsylvania. The warning is in effect at least through 5 p.m. Tuesday, and some parts through the late evening.
“Currents can carry swimmers away from shore through a sand bar and along structures extending out into the lake,” reads the alert. “Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.”
