Watch replay: Former President Barack Obama to rally for Kamala Harris in Detroit
If elected, Harris would become the first woman, first Black woman and first person of South Asian descent to become president. Polling shows she is effectively tied with Trump in Michigan and several other key swing states that will likely decide the election.
With two weeks to go until the Nov. 5 election, Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris is sending a potentially powerful closer to Detroit today to shore up her standing in Michigan: Former President Barack Obama.
The campaign has been notably mum on exactly when and where Obama is speaking but as he hits the campaign trail on behalf of his fellow Democrat, he is expected to have some significant help in Michigan today, with CNN reporting that Detroit rapper Eminem will be introducing the former president.
According to C-Span, the event is expected to start at 7:30 p.m. and you can watch it above (or tap here) once it begins.
Sending Obama, the first Black president, to Michigan could be a big boost for Harris, who faces Republican former President Donald Trump in the election. Obama won the state handily in 2008 and 2012, with strong support from Black voters in Detroit. This year, both campaigns have been fighting to attract Black voters, with Democrats voicing some concerns that some Black men were drifting toward supporting Trump.
