WATCH: OH man arrested after biting finger off during road rage incident
RIVERSIDE, Ohio (KMID/KPEJ) – A Greene County Assistant Prosecutor has been fired after a road rage incident led him to biting one man’s finger off…a bizarre altercation that happened back in July. The Prosecutor’s Office said they have terminated the suspect in the ongoing investigation. Christopher Murray.
Riverside Police said they used a cell phone dropped at the crime scene to find Murray, who they said is responsible for biting off that man’s finger.
“And now, look, dude, I’m missing part of my finger,” said Charles Volpe, the victim of the situation.
Through body camera footage, you can see Riverside Police as they responded to several 911 calls on June 29 about two men fighting on State Route 35 near Woodman Drive.
Upon arrival, one of the men fled the scene and police found the other suffering from an injury to his middle finger…the result of an apparent road rage incident.
“I was in a headlock with this guy, and I cried for people to stop and help,” said Volpe.
As police continued to search the area for the suspect, Volpe explained how the altercation started.
“So when we got this light, it went green. He didn’t go. So I hit my horn and I just laid on it. Please let me go. And he stopped. Got out of the car and wanted a fight,” said Volpe.
Detectives found part of the severed finger at the crime scene. They said Volpe’s injury was serious and would require extensive surgery. However, detectives also found a piece of evidence that would point them to a suspect.
“The guy that put my finger off, he dropped this out of his pocket or some you know, at some point during the struggle,” said Detective Travis Abney.
The cell phone led police straight to Christopher Murray, who was an Assistant Prosecutor with the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office. In a statement, the office said Murray was placed on leave July 9 and formally terminated on August 8.
The Prosecutor’s Office declined further comment. No arrests have been made in connection to the incident. Murray now waits to see if he will be indicted on charges for felonious assault.
