Weekend forecast and an update on the tropics

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Highs soar into the low 90s this afternoon and for the weekend ahead. You Friday night football forecast calls for clear skies, calm winds, and temperatures in the 80s. Overnight lows in the middle 70s. Sunday starts the first day of FALL! The autumnal equinox takes place on Sunday morning. Our amount of daylight will be getting shorter and short after that.

Tropical Update: The National Hurricane Center is still highlighting the northern Caribbean as an area of potential development for next week. Atmospheric conditions will be very favorable for enhanced thunderstorm activity in this region, which will likely organize itself into a closed low, then a named system.

The trajectory of this is North, into the Gulf of Mexico. As for timing… next weekend it is looking likely that it will reach the northern Gulf of Mexico. Intensity? Strengthening will occur, but we are too far out to know how much.
