West Chester woman indicted in Dayton swatting case
Jul. 10—A West Chester woman indicted Tuesday is accused of making three false calls to 911 about a shooter last month in Dayton.
Tmyah Whiters, 26, is scheduled to be arraigned July 23 in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court for swatting and a misdemeanor charge of making false alarms.
Swatting is the act of making a prank call to emergency services in order to bring a large police response to a particular address.
Whiters made three calls to 911 on June 8, within approximately four hours, said Dayton police Lt. Steven Bauer, resulting in officers responding to the 200 block of Geneva Road.
The first call reported that a person had a gun and assaulted her and would shoot law enforcement. The second call said the shooter would shoot any responding officers, and the third call said the shooter had killed everyone in the house, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office.
The calls claimed the shooter was an ex-boyfriend of Whiters, Bauer said.
"The same victim has had similar issues in the past from this same suspect," he said.
Whiters is not in custody and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
