Is Tennessee a happy state? A new study suggests otherwise.

A recent WalletHub study determined the country's happiest states based on three key factors. The factors were divided and given points to determine their effect on the overall score. The closer to 100, the better.

Emotional and physical well-being weighed the most at 50 points. Work environment and community and environment each weighed 25 points.

Is Tennessee a happy state?

While there may be people in the state who live generally happy lives, WalletHub's analysis shows Tennessee to be one of the least happy states.

Tennessee ranked No. 46 in emotional and physical well-being. For the work environment, it ranked No. 24; for community and environment, it ranked No. 34.

The Volunteer State also has the highest share of adult depression. According to WalletHub, Tennessee's share of adult depression was two times more than Hawaii, the state with the least amount of adult depression.

Hawaii was ranked the happiest state in the country. It ranked first in emotional and physical well-being. It also ranked No. 31 in the work environment and No. 3 in community and environment.
