New Wichita County auditor sworn in

Matt Davis was sworn in Monday as the new Wichita County Auditor.

The three district judges who appointed him to the post were present as 30th District Court Judge Jeff McKnight administered the oath of office.

Davis is a Wichita Falls native who graduated from Midwestern State University and served as chief deputy in the Auditor's Office from 2011 until 2022.

Under Texas law, district court judges appoint auditors for counties with more than 10,200 population.

Auditors have financial oversight for all county offices, and officers and may dictate the accounting procedures for all county officers.

The work independently from the County Commissioners Court, which is a county's governing body.
