All of Miley Cyrus' Outfit Changes at the 2015 MTV VMAs
Miley Cyrus in custom Versace.
Setting the tone for the rest of the fashion of the night, the “Wrecking Ball” singer walked the lavender carpet in a custom Versace ensemble. The skirt could’ve been made from spare chandelier parts while the top was modified suspenders in order to cover her nipples.
Miley Cyrus in a ROYGBV jumpsuit.
Opening the night off by making an entrance coming down a psychedelic slide, Cyrus replicated the color pattern in her outfit by wearing a rainbow halter jumpsuit with wide legs and platform sandals. She kind of covered up with a neon flower shrug and headpiece to match fit for Carmen Miranda.
Miley Cyrus in an emoji-inspired ensemble.
She might be dressed just like a large smiley face, but Nicki Minaj wasn’t having it. After opening the show with “Anaconda” and patching things up with Taylor Swift, she passed the mic to Cyrus saying, “This bitch that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press. Miley, what’s good?” In response, Cyrus said, “We’re all in the industry, we all do interviews, and we all know how they manipulate…” Why can’t we all just get along?
Miley Cyrus in a really small white and pom pom dress.
Record for largest cutouts and shortest hemline ever goes to…Miley Cyrus! The singer’s head-to-toe silver outfit was seemingly the futuristic version of the iconic hooker look from “Pretty Woman,” only decked out with pom poms and accessorized with a fuzzy headpiece.
Miley Cyrus in pink flared pants.
In a twist on her suspender slash nipple pastie contraption, the host paired the innovative pink top with flared PVC pants, oversized embellished sunglasses, and long pink dreads.
Miley Cyrus as a rainbow milk carton.
Winner for wackiest and most unwearable outfit of the night, Cyrus slipped on a box covered in rainbow fabric. Hey, at least the structured piece was good for her posture.
Miley Cyrus in a see through PVC dress and white thigh-high boots.
In one of her most naked dresses of the night — and that’s saying something — Cyrus wore a PVC mini dress embellished with what appeared to be oversized candy dots. She wore white-out glasses, meaning she definitely couldn’t read the teleprompter, with white thigh-high Go Go boots. Yummy!
Miley Cyrus in a tinsel jacket and leotard.
While she first went on stage wearing a boxy tinsel coat, she unwrapped herself to reveal a silver leotard underneath, a piece very reminiscent of the one she wore at the previous VMAs that got her into so much trouble with Robin Thicke.
Miley Cyrus in her serious outfit.
Seriously, this is her serious look. Miley Cyrus put on a pair of pant and tight hybrids with a crop top and scrunchie to match. The entire outfit was like a disco ball — minus the colorful dreads.
Miley Cyrus in a one leg sequin leotard.
Surprise! For her final act as host of the MTV VMAs, Miley Cyrus performed a single from her new album, which is available for free at mileycyrusandherdeadpetz.com (z is not a typo) with 31 backup dancers, all famous drag queens from former seasons of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” Cyrus’ favorite TV show. The last outfit change consisted of a one-legged leotard with an emoji eye covering one breast and sequin lips on the other. She paired the jumpsuit with peace sign pink sunglasses, ROYGBV dreads, and Sophia Webster heels.
Miley Cyrus in custom Henry Holland.
For no reason at all — or just because she’s deserving of most epic host ever — MTV awarded Cyrus with a Moonman of her very own. To accept the honor, she strode into the press room smoking a joint and handing out avocados to reporters while wearing a pink latex dress from Henry Holland with the words “Do It” in pop-out bubble letters on it, an homage to her new single.
When you invite Miley Cyrus to host an awards show, you’re asking for outrageous fashion. The singer certainly did not disappoint in the sartorial department — or any department, for that matter — on Sunday night at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. With every outfit change (and there were a lot), she continued to surprise. The Bangerz artist opened the show in a ROYGBV jumpsuit and neon flower shrug; perpetuated her feud with Nicki Minaj in a red lip skirt, googly eye top, and visor; wore a see-through PVC dress with candy-colored dots; and so many more, it was hard to keep track of every change.
